For my digital methodology project, I chose to study networks. How I went about this was by analyzing characters in a TV show, I chose Berry, and create a social graph of their relationships to create a series of connections.
I wanted to see if, via a network, we could find out who killed Barry through the relationships of those who he killed, and those who could have killed him.
First, I found a website that listed every death in Berry.
Then, I used the website Kumu to create a tree of the major characters who were killed by Barry. I also listed descriptions on how and why Barry killed them.
Next, I added characters who stay alive throughout the series, for the most part. With these characters, I note their relationship to Barry and who he killed.
After reading all of the relationships between the characters and why Barry killed who, we should be able to figure out who killed Barry at the end of the show.
Upon finishing my tree on Kuma, I found some flaws with the funcitoning. With the goal being to find out who killed Barry at the end of the show, I feel like viewing the map through the eyes of someone who has not seen Barry is very tough.
I tried to make reading the tree as easy as possible by coloring those who were killed by Barry in red, and coloring those who could have killed Barry in green. I think the descriptions make it tough to find out who killed Barry just
because of the fact that many people he killed were important to those who could have killed him. Additionally, the way the layout was set up did not allow for the user to know if they were correct or not.
Overall, I think I displayed what I tried to do in this project within the layout I chose. I do believe that there is another layout that would be better for narrowing down options and choose an object for an answer.
